We give one day each year to honor a man who devoted his life to freedom and equality. He fought against unimaginable odds, against ignorance, bigotry, racism and hatred and it finally killed him but not before he made his mark on the conscience of the country. He had a dream that in this United States, all men are created equal, endowed by their creator with certain unalienable rights, that among these are life liberty and the pursuit of happiness. No where did it mention skin color or religious belief. His dream lives today in the minds and hearts of most Americans, who will carry his message and fight his battle until it's won. Today we honor his vision and dream and share it with our neighbors, in the music and songs of freedom that persist over so many decades.
