CANDLELIGHT SERVICE OF HOPE AND LAMENT
Sunday, January 11th , 2026
5:30 PM - 6:30 PM
Drake Park Pavilion, Bend, Or.
In response to a week marked by heartbreaking violence and escalating global tensions, the Bend Action Coalition invites the public to a Candlelight Service of Lament and Hope on Sunday, January 11th at 5:30 p.m. at the Drake Park Pavilion.
This peaceful outdoor gathering will offer space for community members to grieve, reflect, and stand together against all forms of violence - including that perpetrated by our own government - while holding onto hope and our shared commitment to peace, dignity, and justice for all people.
Recent events that have spurred this gathering include:
• A woman fatally shot by an ICE officer in Minneapolis.
• Two individuals wounded by government agents in Portland.
• U.S. military actions in Venezuela.
• Renewed threats of aggression toward Greenland, a long-standing ally.
"In the face of unspeakable acts of violence and iniustice. we cannot remain silent." said Rev. Elizabeth Wheatleu Jones of Trinity Episcopal Church. "We gather because we are all in this together. Together, our voices are louder. Together, our lights shine brighter. Together, darkness will not overcome us, and hope will prevail."
Dress warmly and bring a candle or lantern (battery-operated, no open flames permitted). All are welcome - people of all faiths or none, families, elders, teens, and anyone longing for light in these dark times.
