One Year After Helene Western North Carolina is still recovering. Join Sunrise Movement WNC to commemorate the anniversary of Helene. We honor the lives lost and demand that polluting corporations, like Duke Energy, pay for the climate chaos they have caused. THE WORLD BURNS WHILE DUKE PROFITS Duke Energy made over $21 billion last year burning fossil fuels and price-gouging customers. Meanwhile we have suffered year after year of record heat waves, flash floods, and intensifying storms like Hurricane Helene. We will gather at Lake Julian Park at 2pm for a brief training on the Make Polluters Pay Campaign and to hear from community members affected by Helene. Every year Duke raises prices on consumers as they monopolize the electric industry and pump tons of greenhouse gasses into our atmosphere that fuel climate disasters. WE MUST END THE ERA OF FOSSIL FUELS Rally with us at Lake Julian Park to commemorate the lives lost in Hurricane Helene and learn how we can MAKE DUKE PAY! We will march to Long Shoals Rd. with signs, banners and a memorial to the 108 lives lost in North Carolina.
