Join us for a family-friendly Playdate at the Protest during the No Kings Rally. This gathering is open to West Virginia families, caregivers, and kids of all ages who believe in showing up for their communities and building a better future together. At a time when decisions about our schools and our children’s futures are being made every day, families deserve a place in the conversation. When we gather together sharing stories, supporting one another, and showing up in public spaces, we build the kind of people power that helps shape stronger schools, stronger communities, and a more just future for our kids. Bring a blanket or chair and join us in the shade to the right of the stairs on the river side of the Capitol. We’ll have: • Music • Games and bubbles for kids • Coloring sheets and activities • Snacks and water • Space to connect with other WV families This is a peaceful, welcoming space where families can practice civic engagement together and show our children that their voices—and their futures—matter. This is the second time we’ve organized a family picnic like this, and the first was a beautiful, safe day filled with laughter, connection, and community. We know protests can sometimes be portrayed as intimidating, but in reality, they are one of the most important ways communities come together to speak up for what they believe in. Charleston has a strong tradition of peaceful civic gatherings, and families are an important part of that tradition. A core principle behind all No Kings events is a commitment to nonviolent action. We expect all participants to seek to de-escalate any potential confrontation with those who disagree with our values and to act lawfully at these events. Weapons of any kind, including those legally permitted, should not be brought to events. Come as you are. Bring a friend. Bring your kids. Bring a snack, drink, or toys to share.
