Chicago Stands in Solidarity with President Gustavo Petro

Chicago Stands in Solidarity with President @gustavopetrourrego and the People of #Colombia! Rally at Chicago Teachers Union hall (@CTULocal1), on Saturday, December 20th, at 6 PM. The U.S. has launched an unprecedented attack on Colombia’s democracy, and Chicago is responding! After President Gustavo Petro joined a pro-Palestine protest at the UN a few months ago, the Trump administration revoked his visa. Then the U.S. sanctioned Petro, his wife, his son, and his Interior Minister, putting them on the U.S.’ Specially Designated Nationals and Blocked Persons List. And as if that weren’t enough, Trump also threatened tariffs and economic punishment, trying to bully Colombia into abandoning its reforms and peace agenda. These aren’t “drug war” measures — they’re political retaliation. They’re punishment for speaking out and against U.S. imperialism. Petro’s message back was clear: “I don’t do business like you do — I’m a socialist. I believe in solidarity, the common good, and humanity’s shared resources: life, now endangered by your oil.” So Chicago is standing up. We refuse sanctions. We refuse intervention. We stand with the Colombian people and their right to sovereignty. Hosted by the Colombian Consulate in Chicago, USPCN, @caarprnow, @antiwarchicago , @coalitionagainsttrump, @nationalsds, @chitorture, Alderman Byron Sigcho-Lopez (@sigchofor25) & Commissioner Jessica Vásquez (@commissionervasquez), with support from the @colombiaembassyus. Join us in defense of — and solidarity with — President Petro and the beautiful people of Colombia!
