💃🏿 The Chicago Liberation Center presents Rhythms of Liberation: Cumbia 101—Sonidero Edition! 🎶 Cumbia 101 + DJ set 🗓️ Friday, April 17 🕑 6:30 P.M. 📍 @chicagoliberationcenter (2712 W Cermak Rd.) We’ll be exploring the African roots of cumbia, its role in resistance — and the often-forgotten history of how DJs and radio helped build the 2006 May 1st “Day Without an Immigrant” into a general strike for immigrant rights! Followed by a Cumbia 101 class teaching the basic steps and turn. Then @sonido_trumbullshadow99 and @sonidosconmarcelo take over for a DJ set! Because a sonidero doesn’t just play music, they move people. This is a free event but donations are appreciated. All are welcome. No experience needed.
