When: This Saturday, 9.27, at 1 p.m. Where: Daley Plaza, 50 W Washington St. Chicago, IL What: A protest demanding ICE out of Chicago, with particular focus on Cook County States Attorney Eileen Burke demanding she investigate and close the Broadview ICE Staging Facility, charge the ICE officers who killed Silverio Villegas-Gonzalez, and free all survivors of torture and wrongful conviction! The Coalition Against the Trump Agenda calls on all movement forces opposed to Trump’s racist scheme of mass deportations to join us in protesting States Attorney Burke, who has positioned herself as a staunch enemy of justice and police accountability. Burke has the power to investigate the gross mistreatment of detainees at the Broadview ICE Staging Facility, which is being used as a de-facto detention center. She also has the power to prosecute and charge the officers who murdered Silverio Villegas-Gonzalez in cold blood. Instead of standing on the side of the People against Trump’s racist mass deportations, Burke has said she will work with federal agents to prosecute protesters, and has shown she will let racist cops off the hook when they commit crimes. Burke has a pattern and practice of enabling racist policing by reversing progress on freeing torture survivors and the wrongfully convicted. In December of last year, she even dropped the charges the previous SA Kim Foxx had brought against Patrick O’Donnell, one of three racist police officers from Oak Lawn who beat 17-year-old Hadi Abuatelah within inches of his life.
