In Washington, D.C., he unilaterally assumed command of the Metropolitan Police and deployed the National Guard under a so-called "crime emergency," despite crime rates being at a 30‑year low. These moves echo wider assertions of unchecked executive control. We can’t wait for the midterm elections! Trump has convinced the Texas legislature to redraw their congressional maps to allow his MAGA party to gain 5 more Republican members. Trump's Justice Department has begun expanding domestic surveillance programs under new anti-terrorism mandates — moves critics say are designed more to monitor political dissent than to ensure public safety. Whistleblowers from within the FBI and NSA have expressed concern over politically motivated targeting of journalists, activists, and opposition figures. Trump has also promised “total immunity” to law enforcement and military personnel who act in his name, a move that risks eroding legal accountability and emboldening abuses of power. This is not the conduct of a president protecting a republic; it is the behavior of a ruler building a regime. We will have powerful speakers from a wide range of community groups, including immigration advocacy groups, progressive Democratic elected officials, and a musical performance by a special guest.
