Howard County for a Free Palestine

Howard County George Floyd Day 2025 Rally

On October 14, 2025, George Floyd would have turned 52 years old. Instead, he was murdered at only 46 years old on May 25, 2020 by Minneapolis Police Officer Derek Chauvin, who suffocated Floyd by placing his knee on Floyd's neck for 8 minutes and 46 seconds, as horrified onlookers begged him to get off to allow Floyd to breathe, and as Floyd cried for air and relief. Floyd's murder at the hands of the police set off a national wave of political energy calling for massive police reform and a stop to unchecked police brutality, and the simple recognition that Black Lives Matter. Although Chauvin was sentenced to 22 years in prison for Floyd's murder, 5 years later, despite all of the rallies and energy and calls for reform, law enforcement in the US has changed very little, and continues to dehumanize black lives with little to no accountability for officers. The call for radical change and accountability for law enforcement in the US remains just as relevant today as it was then. Join us in Columbia at 5:30 PM on Tuesday, October 14, 2025 on the corner of Broken Land Parkway & Little Patuxent Parkway to honor the life of George Floyd and other victims of police brutality, and to also remind Howard County that BLACK LIVES STILL MATTER, and US policing still needs a major overhaul. Please bring signs!
