Cortlandt Manor, NY: Rally to Stop Reopening Indian Point Nuclear Plant

Following shocking news that the company that owns Indian Point is pushing to reopen the nuclear plant, we're rallying to demand Governor Hochul come out against this reckless, expensive proposal. Here's what's going on: Indian Point has been undergoing decommissioning and the last reactor closed in 2021. But Holtec, the company that now owns the plant and is handling the decommissioning, has announced proposals to build new nuclear power plants at the site. New Yorkers know that energy bills in our area are exorbitant, and adding more nuclear power to the mix – the single-most expensive way we have to produce electricity – will only make things worse. Much of Indian Point is already dismantled. Spending billions of dollars to either rebuild or install new nuclear power on a highly polluted EPA Superfund site with tons of radioactive spent waste is an unacceptable use of taxpayer money. The site has been proven to be unsuitable for nuclear power for a multitude of reasons. Now it's on us to show Governor Hochul that reopening Indian Point is not an option.
