MayDay is a day recognized around the world as a time to celebrate the achievements and struggles of working people from all walks of life. Originating from the workers movement in Chicago, 1886, the US is ironically the only country in the world to not recognize the day. There is a new nation-wide effort underway in the US led by many labor organizations to finally recognize MayDay as a day for uplifting the interests of working people, and advancing the principles of the labor movement. To this end we encourage you and your organization to endorse this year’s Yolo Committee to Celebrate Mayday. Join us in this collective endeavour! Plans are still being made but we foresee a gathering and short rally at 5:30 PM on Friday, May 1st with entertainment and speakers in downtown Davis, followed by a short procession through the downtown area. Celebrate the achievements of our working population and join us!
