On Nov. 19, commissioners vote on whether to approve the Sunlight-Long Well Pad: an industrial drill site comprised of 32 new fracking wells just .6 miles from the Aurora Reservoir. The Colorado Energy and Carbon Management Commission’s job is to protect “public health, safety, and welfare.” Yet as we descend deeper into the climate crisis, the commission continues to green light deadly fossil fuel projects that exacerbate climate catastrophes and poison surrounding communities. The pad threatens water for over 300,000 Aurora residents, imperils 10,000 households & four schools in a two-mile radius, and doubles the risk of blood cancer for over 7,800 children.
