Detroit Board of Police Commissioners Meeting
Det.BPHG
Today, the Black Panther Honor Guard demonstrated solidarity with the @detroitaarpr the Black Power Coalition, community members and several members from the board of police commissioners at the 3rd Precinct with clear demands.
@jah_t313 African People's Socialist Party ✊🏾
We are demanding:
- The immediate release of the incarcerated community member who was assaulted and removed by colonial pigs
- The termination of the officer involved, along with a full review of their track record and pattern of behavior
- Psychological assessments for all officers involved
- We demand community control over the institutions that currently police our neighborhoods, while simultaneously building independent community based systems of defense, safety, intervention, and accountability that reduce and ultimately replace reliance on policing.
Next Step: The Detroit Board of Police Commissioners has scheduled a meeting for Thursday, April 9, 2026 at 6:30 p.m. in the 9th Precinct Community at Heilmann Recreation Center.
We know this violence is not an isolated incident. It is part of a larger pattern. Policing has always functioned as an extension of the state and as an enforcer of settler colonial interests, property and repression and not community safety.
We are also standing in solidarity with comrades in Grand Rapids fighting for justice in the lynching of Daquain Tre Johnson, as the system once again protects its own by releasing the officer involved with zero accountability. @alytheeactivist
Our struggles are connected. The same system that brutalizes, cages, and murders our people across cities, across state lines, across borders, and across the globe is the same enemy we must confront together.
We innerstand that justice will never simply be handed down from the same institutions that harm us. Real safety will come from what we build with each other. Organized people, political clarity, community defense, and collective power.
Detroit deserves accountability. Our people deserve freedom. And we will continue organizing until both are won.
