Prohibit Access to Survivors Counselling Notes
The UN Committee on the Elimination of Discrimination Against Women recommended that Ireland:
“prohibit access to survivors’ counselling notes”
Minister for Justice — why are you proceeding with legislation that goes against this?

Dept of Justice, Stephen’s Green, D2
Ireland had its CEDAW (Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women) Review in 2025 and in July the UN Committee on the Elimination of Discrimination against Women made its recommendations. One of the recommendations advocates to “prohibit access to survivors’ counselling notes”.
Minister for Justice — enact the CEDAW recommendation if you re committed to ending gender based violence.
The Govt is proceeding with its proposed legislation that would continue to damage survivors as their therapy notes would still be up for grab by the defence team in sexual violence / GBV trials . This is inhumane . Therapy notes have no evidential value whatsoever. Stop re-traumatising survivors!
The Govt is proceeding *against* the wishes of survivors , therapists, the Oireachtas Committee that scrutinised the legislation, the DRCC & the NWCI , all of whom have recognised that the Minister’s current proposal continues to have the propensity to damage survivors .
Demand that the Minister listens to survivors . Join us in solidarity on Thursday
