Duke students, it’s our time to rise! 🦋 We, the students, are walking out on BC Plaza for a peaceful rally to demand Duke protect its workers, protect its students, and become a 4th Amendment Campus 🌱 Through Siembra NC and their 4th Amendment Workplace campaign, hundreds of workplaces across the state of North Carolina have become 4th Amendment workplaces, including the City of Durham! Duke University, as the 2nd largest employer in NC, has a responsibility to follow in Durham’s footsteps and become a 4th Amendment Campus. Here’s what becoming a 4th Amendment Campus would mean for Duke: - ICE/CBP must show a valid judicial warrant before entering private areas on campus. - Employers and employees would get trained on their legal rights to refuse warrantless searches by federal agents and learn how to interact with them. - ALL students and workers — regardless of immigration status — stay safer. When our communities come under attack by ICE terror, when our government and universities fail to protect the students, the workers, and the people who make this country beautiful, we must rise together and fight to keep each other safe. Our dreams are not illegal. For the people we love 🫂 For the places we call home 🌎 It is our time to rise 🦋
