Shukri Abu Baker is a Palestinian political prisoner and former CEO of the Holy Land Foundation, formerly the largest Muslim charity in the U.S.
In 2008, Shukri and four colleagues—collectively known as the Holy Land Five—were wrongfully convicted of "t3rrorism" for their fundraising efforts for Palestinian families. After 17 years, Shukri is still being held at "Bloody Beaumont" federal prison in Texas; he is the last remaining member of the Holy Land Five still alive.
In Summer 2025, Abu Baker released his first poetry collection "Light from Deep Under," about his time in confinement.
This is the first event in a series about the Holy Land 5.
