Gurnee Peace Walk: ICE Out of our Schools!
Keep ICE Out of Our Schools!
Join us for a Peace Walk in support of the children, educators, and families living in fear of ICE.
WHY WE WALK
We walk to show solidarity with our students, staff, and schools. We walk to support those who are afraid, to reassure children, to connect with each other, and to heal the worry and trauma that many are carrying.
WHAT IS HAPPENING
ICE has reached Lake County, bringing fear and chaos to the community. Increased aggression, intimidation, and overreach have deeply impacted our families and schools. Students are staying home, and parents are too afraid to participate in school activities. Educators are expected to teach students who are anxious, distracted, or absent, all while ignoring their own stress as ICE closes in.
In Chicago's Logan Square, tear gas has been deployed outside of an elementary school. Students at Benito Juarez were detained by agents on their way to school. The threat feels even more urgent after ICE agents entered the Rayito de Sol Spanish Immersion Early Learning Center on Chicago’s North Side on November 5, 2025, abducting a day care teacher in front of children, parents, and staff and making clear that even educators are not immune from these aggressive tactics.
But ICE's aggression does not stop at the city limits of Chicago. ICE has staked out North School in Waukegan and now recklessly chased onto campus at Warren Township High School. These aggressive tactics are escalating.
Our students, families, and school staff deserve safety, care, and solidarity, not fear. This Peace Walk is an opportunity for our community to come together, stand with those who are most affected, and affirm that our schools and neighborhoods must remain places of peace and belonging.
EVENT DETAILS
The Peace Walk will begin at the corner of Brookhaven Rd and N O'Plaine Rd. Participants will march peacefully and lawfully north on O'Plaine, then east on Old Grand, ending at Viking Park where speakers will share compelling impact stories and calls to action.
