Indivisible
PROTECT IMMIGRANT WORKERS, DEFEND LABOR RIGHTS, AND CALL OUT TRUMPIST CORPORATIONS
This rally is being sponsored by Indivisible Highland Park and Indivisible Central NJ.
We will rally at the Wilkowitz Pavillion at the Highland Park Farmers Market and then go down Raritan Avenue (Highway 27) and demonstrate between Adelaide and River Road. Bring big signs that can be easily seen by passing cars. We recommend the following:
• The signs should be at least 3 feet on a side with big letters that are several inches high.
• The signs should have simple slogans that are easy to read.
• Possible slogans
o Don’t deport immigrant workers!
o Stop ICE raids on warehouse workers!
o Immigrants also have rights!
o ICE: Obey the law!
o ICE: Don’t hide your faces!
o We need more labor unions!
o Defend workers’ rights to unionize!
o Amazon [or Walmart]: Stop helping Trump!
o Amazon [or Walmart]: Let your workers unionize!
We rise to protest the growing intensity of ICE raids on warehouses and other places that employ many immigrant workers. Despite the fact that they are not criminals but are gainfully employed, these workers are being arrested without warrants and deported without receiving a fair hearing on why they should be allowed to remain in the US.
We rise to defend the right of workers to form unions. The Trump Administration and the federal courts have steadily undercut labor protections. Trump has nearly destroyed the National Labor Relations Board and the federal courts are on the verge of fatally weakening, if not declaring unconstitutional, the National Labor Relations Act (Wagner Act). These actions make it much harder for workers to organize unions in order to get better wages, more generous benefits, and safer working conditions.
We rise to call out corporations such as Amazon and Walmart that are aiding and abetting the Trump Administration. Amazon donated to the Trump inauguration, cut back its diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) programs, and filed suit to invalidate the National Labor Relations Act. Walmart has also cut back its DEI programs.
A core principle behind all Indivisible events is a commitment to nonviolent action. We expect all participants to seek to de-escalate any potential confrontation with those who disagree with our values.
