The Reading Room HTX and Houston PSL invite you to commemorate the life of revolutionary freedom fighter, Assata Shakur at 6:30PM on Sunday, October 12 at The Reading Room (1109 Providence St). Join us as we reflect on Assata’s legacy as a tireless fighter for Black Liberation, as a political prisoner, as an anti-imperialist, and as an internationalist. Hear community members read Assata’s words and share original poetry inspired by Assata and the struggles for Black liberation. We’ll also hear from local organizers who recently travelled to Cuba about the important role the Cuban socialist project played in protecting Assata from US empire.
