Rally Against Immigration Injustices
Join Indivisible NOVA West for an awareness and education rally to spotlight the injustices facing immigrant families in our community.
Why We’re Rallying: Nationally masked, unidentified ICE agents are picking up immigrants without due process and shipping them out to ICE detention centers and deporting them to non-country-of-origin countries without accountability or providing any information to their families or communities. Locally, ICE agents are picking up immigrants showing up for scheduled meetings at the immigration court and the sheriff is disproportionately picking up non-citizens and holding them for ICE. Loudoun County’s Sheriff Chapman is working closely with ICE through the 287(g) agreement, resulting in detainment, prolonged detention, and the transfer of our immigrant neighbors to ICE custody. Under his leadership, traffic stops for Latino residents have increased by 400% in the last year.
We specifically demand:
1. The Loudoun County Sheriff forthwith cease all 287(g) collaboration with ICE and desist from discriminatory policing practices.
2. ICE agents identify themselves through a badge and uniform.
3. Local law enforcement resources stay within the community, not outsourced to ICE.
What to Expect: Inspiring speakers and music. Calls to Action including tools to fight back from organizing to advocacy to direct support. A peaceful, inclusive environment focused on justice and solidarity. Bring your signs, American flags, and your spirited voice. If you can’t make it by 6:00pm, come when you can. Every presence makes a difference. Please note: A core principle behind all our events is a commitment to nonviolent action. We expect all participants to seek to de-escalate any potential confrontation with those who disagree with our values. Weapons of any kind, including those legally permitted, should not be brought to events.
