Wise Women & Daring Girls
Indivisible
Time to celebrate the women and girls who have made, are making, and will make, this world a better place. Whether through writing, researching, mothering, thinking, making, fighting, teaching, building, creating - we are grateful for all the things. Time for an International Women's Day rally celebrating WISE WOMEN & BRAVE GIRLS!
Celebrations of International Women's Day will take place worldwide during the weekend of March 6 - 8. People will hold rallies, conduct teach-ins, give lectures, share art, dance, tell stories, and sing. In Lincoln City, we will start with a program of words & music on Friday and end with this rally on Sunday.
We woke up after both Trump elections knowing women & girls were under attack. Atwood told us how bad it would get, but it was/is still hard to believe. We woke up ready to fight. Women's Marches all over the world showed that we were united in our resistance. In the last year, women and men of good will have been fighting hard for everyone being left behind by MAGA. Let's take a beat and shift our focus back to that first morning.
A bit on history: March 8th is International Women's Day. In the U.S., IWD is linked to the 1911 Triangle Shirtwaist Fire in New York City. That day, 146 workers - mostly women and girls - fell to their deaths, trying to escape, because the exit doors were locked. Prior to this, the garment workers had been out on strike because of dangerous working conditions.
We do this, rain or shine.
A core principle behind all Indivisible events is a commitment to nonviolent action. We expect all participants to seek to de-escalate any potential confrontation with those who disagree with our values.
