Indivisible

FREEDOM RIDE AND MARCH TO OUR SENATORS’ OFFICES

Join Indivisible Littleton on Tuesday, January 20, for a rail ride and march to the downtown Denver offices of Sens. Bennet and Hickenlooper. The Women’s March has set January 20 as Free America Walkout Day to protest growing fascism in America by walking out of work, school and commerce. Simultaneously, Indivisible is asking us to call our Senators and demand that they withhold expanded funding for ICE when it runs out on January 30. Indivisible Littleton is combining those two calls to action by inviting our members to ride together to our senators’ offices on Tuesday morning. The Senate will be in recess that week, and we will deliver a stack of signed petitions demanding that Congress rein in ICE and Border Patrol lawlessness. The new funding bill that’s currently being written is our opportunity to place significant restrictions on ICE and ensure it doesn’t get a penny more to enable its brutality. That bill cannot pass without Democratic votes in the Senate, so we have real leverage if our senators refuse to cave in. Our petition will demand that the bill: • Reject increased funding for ICE and Border Patrol • Restrict ICE and Border Patrol’s ability to conduct dragnet arrest operations • End Border Patrol deployments to our cities • Limit DHS’s reprograming and transfer authority Here’s our plan… • We will meet at the Littleton Mineral Station at Santa Fe & Mineral by 8:30 a.m. on Tuesday, January 20. • From there, we will catch the RTD Line D train at 8:38 a.m. and ride as a group to Colfax at Auraria Station, then walk five blocks (12 minutes) to Senator Bennet’s office at the Cesar E. Chavez Memorial Building (1244 Speer Blvd.), arriving approximately 9:20 a.m. • After delivering our petitions, we will leave at 10 a.m. and walk 1.3 miles (30 minutes) to Senator Hickenlooper’s office at the Byron Rogers Federal Building (1961 Stout St.), arriving approximately 10:30 a.m. • (Alternatively, walk back to the Auraria-Colfax Station and take Line D three stops north to the 18th St. & California Station, then one block to the Rogers Federal Building) • We will catch the Line D rail at 18th St. & California Station and ride back to Littleton Mineral Station. If you wish to drive to downtown Denver and meet the Indivisible party, please note the locations and approximate times above. If you have trouble linking up with the march, you may call 720-649-0411, leave your name and number and someone will call and tell you how to connect with us. Whether or not you join us in person, we ask that you please call the senators’ offices directly: • Senator Michael Bennet: 303-455-7600 (Denver) or 866-455-9866 (DC) • Senator John Hickenlooper: 303-244-1628 (Denver) or 202-224-5941 (DC) In addition to the points suggested by Indivisible, let them know that you object to the use of military gear, masks and unmarked cars; cruel and unnecessarily brutal treatment of civilians; and intimidation tactics designed to limit freedom of speech. Please read the Indivisible Guide on how to have a successful district office visit at https://indivisible.org/resource/how-have-successful-district-office-visit so that we are all on the same page. This a local Indivisible event! A core principle behind all Indivisible events is a commitment to nonviolent action. We expect all participants to seek to de-escalate any potential confrontation with those who disagree with our values.
