🎥Sudan Screening & Fundraiser
The first program of BAS Film Club focuses on Sudan with a screening of Khartoum (2025). Despite the country currently facing the world’s largest humanitarian crisis, the war remains largely invisible across global media and political landscapes. This silence is not accidental—it is shaped by race and colonial legacies that continue to determine whose suffering is seen and whose lives are deemed worthy of care. The crisis in Sudan exposes the brutality of imperial, capitalist, and geopolitical violence and reveals how Black struggles are interconnected across the Global South and the world. By centering Sudan, we seek to disrupt this erasure and open a space for solidarity that refuses hierarchies of visibility and value.

All surplus proceeds, after screening costs, will be donated directly to the Sudan Aid Fund organised by Space Black, supporting Sudanese communities affected by the ongoing crisis.

BAS Film Club centers Black voices from the African continent and across the diaspora, showcasing independent filmmakers and Black auteurs working outside mainstream cinema. The program highlights artists who experiment with cinematic form, language, and media, using film as a space for political reflection, artistic exploration, and imaginative possibility.
Echoes of Empire is the inaugural chapter of BAS Film Club. This series brings together films that confront the ongoing legacies of imperial violence and their impact on Black and Brown communities worldwide. Through cinema, the program traces how empire reverberates across geographies and generations, while foregrounding practices of resistance, care, and alternative futures.
This spring, in solidarity with communities affected by imperial violence, Echoes of Empire also functions as a series of fundraisers in support of Sudan, Congo, Palestine, and Haiti.
The Sudan screening and fundraiser is organised by Black Archives Sweden (BAS) in collaboration with Panora.
