Sowing today for liberation tomorrow! Join YFFP for an afternoon of olive planting! Taking place on Saturday 25th April, 2pm to 4pm at Hulme Community Garden Centre, Manchester, M15 5RG. The event is tailored to children ages 5–14, and all children must attend with a parent, guardian, or another responsible adult (e.g. grandparent, aunt, uncle, etc). A key pillar of the fight for Palestinian liberation is generational defiance. Palestinians, for the last century, have passed on the teachings of resistance and resilience to children and youth so that the cause could thrive and the culture preserved. Palestinians in occupied Palestine who resist Israel with every fabric of their being are fuelled by such teachings. This is why pursuit of freedom for Palestine still lives on as fire within the souls of millions of Palestinians scattered across the diaspora. Olive harvesting is a Palestinian custom preserved over generations. Just as the nation as whole - the olive too is under constant, escalating aggression. Far more than merely a tree, the Palestinian olive represents sustenance and steadfastness, livelihood and lineage, resilience, and being rooted to your own land. Tens of thousands of Palestinian children have been killed by Israel over the course of the genocide, ongoing since October 2023. This is not to mention the countless orphaned and those detained in occupation cells. To be true supporters of the Palestinian cause, and for global justice as a whole, our teachings must start at home. Activities will include: planting olive seeds into small pots, facepainting, and learning about the significance of the olive tree in Palestine.
