Citizens Bank Peaceful Standout
MassDems
The Medfield Democratic Town Committee is sponsoring a peaceful standout in Medfield on Saturday March 7th from 10:30-12:00. This is being done as part of a group of standouts that will be happening on this day in MA, RI, and VT, organized by the de-ICE Citizens Bank Coalition, which includes the Rhode Island Resistance Coalition and a dozens of local groups affiliated with the Indivisible movement (see indivisible.org and indivisible-ma.org).
We will be peacefully protesting Citizens Bank’s lending financial support to companies building and operating ICE detention centers across the country.
We will gather on Main St, alongside Baxter Park, ACROSS THE STREET from the Medfield Citizens Bank branch (near CVS), so as not to block access to the branch or in any way interfere with customers or employees.
Despite its public commitment to community-centered institutions and social responsibility, and while other major US banks have ended their relationships with the private prison industry, Citizens Bank continues to be a major lender to the country’s two largest private prison companies, CoreCivic and The GEO Group, that build and operate immigration detention centers for ICE. The coalition calls on Citizens Bank to end its financial relationships with private prison and detention contractors as soon as legally possible. For more information about Citizens Bank’s long-standing relationship to the private prison system, go to boycottcitizens.org.
Parking available behind CVS, down Rte 27 in the shopping plaza, or on side streets off of Main St.
