Indivisible Twin Cities
ITC: Defend The Environment Rally
At 4:00 p.m. Thursday, September 4th, Indivisible Twin Cities members and supporters will gather at the Lake Street Bridge for a Defend America’s Essentials rally featuring speakers from Friends of the BWCA, Sierra Club North Star Chapter, and local musicians. We are standing up to defend the environment, which the Trump administration has continued to attack in numerous ways, including recently: • Neutering the Environmental Protection Agency, so it will no longer fight– or even acknowledge–climate change, including closing the EPA’s research unit • Allowing copper-nickel mining in the Superior National Forest, close to the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness (BWCA) • Planning the decommissioning of two major NASA satellite missions that measure carbon dioxide levels and crop health. Scientists, farmers and even oil and gas companies rely on data from these satellites, one of which would burn up in the atmosphere if it's decommissioned. • Clawing back $7 billion in Solar for All grants that were already awarded to help 900,000 households reduce electricity bills and fossil fuels. Households expected to save $350 million a year in energy costs And more. At the rally, leaders of local environmental groups including Chris Knopf of Friends of the BWCA, and Mary Blitzer of the Sierra Club North Star Chapter will speak about how Trump’s policies will harm Minnesota. Musicians include ukulele songbird Katy Vernon and the Re-Sisters drummers. See you there!
