The Trump administration has attacked universities across the country. Join us as we stand up to say “Hands Off Our University,” kicking off a week of action in support of academic integrity, freedom of speech and research funds at the University of Minnesota. The federal government has withheld $23.4 million in research funds from the U this year, cutting student research and jobs. It also sued the university to control what our students learn and their freedom of speech. In April, the UMN faculty senate endorsed the Rutgers Mutual Defense Compact for Big Ten Universities. It is only fitting that we rise up now and show unity with the faculty as the University of Minnesota hosts Rutgers on September 27. The University of Minnesota is one of the state’s largest employers and an engine that fuels our state’s economy. The federal cuts are threatening medical and agricultural research, in addition to student jobs and stipends. If you have wondered what you can do, this is a first step.
