Teach-in and workshop on the Afro-Brazilian martial art, capoeira.

Martial arts has been a form of cultural resistance through many movements. Join us for a teach-in and workshop on the Afro-Brazilian martial art, capoeira. Capoeira was developed by enslaved Africans in Brazil as a form of dance and resistance. From an illegal practice in Brazil in the 1930s, to a martial art that is practiced all over the world, capoeira carries a rich history of resistance through movement and song — a beautiful art form that involves the conversation of bodies, transcending languages, abilities, genders, ages, and borders All levels of physical ability and experience are welcome! Please wear comfortable clothing that will allow you to move (T-shirt plus sweat pants is perfect). Suggested donation of $10-20. No one will be turned away for lack of funds! Donations will go towards the PSL organizing efforts, materials, educational events, and demonstrations. šŸ“… Saturday, September 6 āŒšļø10:00 AM - 12:00 PM šŸ“J Hood Wright Park, meet near the basketball court šŸ”— RSVP at bit.ly/pslcapoeira ā™æļøJ Hood Wright Park has a ramp at the entrance on 173rd Street and Fort Washington.
