New York, NY: Speaker Adams: Close the Massive Loophole in Our Climate Law

Join us on the steps of City Hall to demand that Council Speaker Adrienne Adams close a massive loophole in Local Law 97, New York City's Green New Deal for Buildings. Passed in 2019, Local Law 97 is aimed at the city's top source of greenhouse gas pollution: buildings. The good news: Local Law 97 is successfully creating jobs, lowering energy bills, and cutting air pollution while helping meet critical climate goals. The bad news: Mayor Eric Adams, at the behest of his real estate donors, created loophole enabling landlords to avoid cleaning up their buildings. On September 29, we're rallying with Council Member Carmen De La Rosa and other allies in support of Intro 1180, a bill in the Council which would close the mayor's massive loophole. We'll be calling on Speaker Adrienne Adams side with New Yorkers over greedy polluters and pass Intro 1180 this year! Rally sponsors: New York Communities for Change, Food & Water Watch, NYPIRG, ALIGN, Fridays For Future NYC (list in formation)
