Artists Against Apartheid

Political Education Series: Is Art Action?

⁉️🎨 IS ART ACTION🎨⁉️ Oakland: AAA and PYM invite artists, cultural workers, and anyone moved by creative resistance to join us for a 3-part political education series exploring the role of revolutionary art in anti-imperialist struggle! Across three sessions, we’ll come together to study, reflect, and create; we’ll explore how artists and movements have used art as a tool for survival and resistance, from Palestine to Oakland and beyond. 📚Session 1 (8/14) is a peer-led class and discussion about key ideas and histories of revolutionary art. 🎨Session 2 (8/21) is a workshop focused on crafting galvanizing messages and accessible ways to create visuals. 🖼️🖌️ Session 3 (9/4) is a visit to two murals in Oakland where we will build on what we’ve learned about the function of art in the struggle, and discuss where we go from here. This series is for anyone interested in the intersection of art and revolutionary struggle, whether you’re a practicing artist or just beginning to explore how your creativity connects to collective liberation. Our goal is to sharpen our politics and raise our consciousness in community! 🗓️ Thursdays | 8/14, 8/21, 9/4 ⏱️ 6:00PM
