For the people on the ground, this war means even more violence, insecurity, and an exacerbation of the humanitarian crisis. In addition, the bombing of industrial and energy facilities threatens an ecological catastrophe. While bombings target civilian infrastructure, the regime is using the situation to consolidate its authoritarian structures and reinforce the oppression of the population, as seen in the massacres—including by shutting down the internet.
