PALESTINIAN PRISONERS' WEEK EVENTS April 17 is Palestinian Prisoners' Day, commemorating the 24th anniversary of the arrest of Marwan Barghouti, "the Palestinian Mandela". This is a global moment to stand with the thousands of Palestinians held in Israeli detention. This year carries a heavy significance as Israel passes its depraved death penalty law, giving the state the power to execute Palestinian prisoners. Meanwhile, the Australian Labor government continues to ally with Israel, failing Palestinians in our obligations under international law. Grassroots movements – and the awareness created by events focused on Palestinian political prisoners – are integral to getting our government to act.
