She researches the history of ideas about race, queerness, safety, and rights, and their production as levers in the realm of hate crimes policy, surveillance, “anti-terror” measures, and war. Emmaia’s teaching has spanned NYU, Sarah Lawrence College, freedom schools, encampments, and other community spaces.
