This partnership sows fear in our community, invites racial profiling, and diverts local resources away from real public safety. WHY COMMISSIONERS MATTER Your County Commissioners hold vital authority in local government. They oversee county budgets, approve contracts, and set policy priorities that affect all residents. In many counties, commissioners can challenge or block unauthorized agreements—including 287(g) contracts made by sheriffs who overstep their legal authority. Commissioners can also pass resolutions that reflect our community’s values and reaffirm that our tax dollars should not fund ICE collaboration. When we show up together, we remind them that they answer to the people, not federal immigration enforcement.
