Reno, NV May Day of Action 2026

May Day Strong

In alignment with May Day Strong's national call for solidarity, a coalition of local groups are banding together for a targeted May Day of Action in Reno, NV. We are holding our local governments accountable for their blatant corruption and class warfare. We the people are pressuring them to create an equitable budget for the upcoming fiscal year that prioritizes evidence-based solutions instead of shelling out millions of dollars to inflated police budgets, AI surveillance, out of town developers and corrupt politicians and staff. Here in Reno, our local city continues to prioritize “public safety” above all else, with RPD getting a proposed $8M increase to their budget for 2027 for a total of ~$121M. This is on top of the City of Reno citing an existing $21M deficit. We want to see no more increases to the police budget and the reallocation of the existing RPD budget to life affirming community resources like outreach services, housing initiatives, libraries, schools, medical services, parks, community centers and more. JOIN US IN RENO ON MAY 1ST: - Commit to a worker blackout: No Work, No School, No Shopping - Join us at City Plaza (by the BELIEVE sign) at 11 am - Pressure the City of Reno to not increase the police budget – How do you think these funds would be better spent? - Meet your community and get involved with next steps! It's going to take more than one rally, but we can band together to build momentum for lasting local change. Please note: A core principle behind May Day Strong's events is a commitment to nonviolent action. Weapons of any kind, including those legally permitted, should not be brought to events.
