Indivisible
ICE Out of SLO County!
Rally and vigil every Sunday through January 27 between 10 am - 11:30 am at the corner of Hwy 1 and Kansas Avenue. Join us for a rally to protest ICE activity in our beloved community and to hold vigil for those in our community abducted by ICE. The sheriff chooses to allow ICE agents into the jail to abduct people despite CA laws that would allow him not to cooperate. The sheriff has said that SLO county is not a sanctuary county and that the jail and sheriff's office will not be ICE Free Zones.
It IS happening here! ICE is in our community multiple times a week abducting people from the SLO County jail. Imagine you are waiting for a loved one to be released from the SLO county jail. But before you can be reunited with them, they are kidnapped by masked secret police from the jail right before your eyes. Those ice agents take pictures of you and your license plate. Then they show up at your house to abduct you too.
People taken at the jail are being denied due process and legal representation. They are separated from their children, families and loved ones. Don't turn your back on what is happening in our community. Everyone who is released from the jail should be released regardless of where they were born.
We are standing at the jail and holding banners and large signs to call attention to what is happening there every Sunday until the Truth Act Forum on January 27. At the Truth Act Forum the sheriff is to provide data on ALL interactions with ICE. It will be held at approximately 1 pm. Please plan to attend in solidarity. You can bring signs and make public comment. You can also submit written comment ahead of the meeting.
A core principle behind all Indivisible events is a commitment to nonviolent action. We expect all participants to seek to de-escalate any potential confrontation with those who disagree with our values.
