ICE Out For Good: Marin County Civic Center - San Rafael
Wednesday, January 7th, an American citizen was killed by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) in Minneapolis, Minnesota. This killing is part of a broader pattern of unchecked violence, impunity, and abuse carried out by federal immigration enforcement agencies against members of our communities.
A broad coalition of groups across the country is calling for a coordinated Ice Out For Good Weekend of Action on Saturday, January 10th and Sunday, January 11th to demand accountability, honor the life lost, and make visible the human cost of ICE’s actions.
At our event, we will walk solemnly in a “funeral procession," starting at the Marin County Veterans Memorial Auditorium, through the grounds of the Civic Center, passing the farmers market and the French outdoor market. The procession will end at the starting point. There will be opening and closing remarks.
Please wear black and bring a flower to place in memoriam. We will soon send guidance on signage to all registrants.
Due to multiple events on the Civic Center grounds, parking is limited. Please consider taking the SMART Train, carpooling, and/or arriving early to allow time to find a spot and walk to the start.
A core principle behind all ICE Out For Good and all Marin events is a commitment to nonviolent action and no civil disobedience. We expect all participants to seek to de-escalate any potential confrontation with those who disagree with our values, and to act lawfully at these events. Weapons of any kind, including those legally permitted, should not be brought to events. All events should be held in public spaces or on public property.
All participants agree to assume 100% responsibility for their own safety, conduct and well-being. Please review this guide, “How To Protest Safely” in advance: https://www.nrdc.org/stories/how-protest-safely.
