May Day Rally For Freedom - Stand With Our Neighbors Against ICE & Sabey!
Southend Indivisible
While you're not working, shopping, or attending class, show up for our immigrant neighbors on May Day!
The hundreds of people and 20+ organizations powering the Coalition to Block ICE Expansion will be lining up along the entire 2-block stretch from Sabey Corporation, the billionaire corporation leasing offices to ICE, to the Department of Homeland Security (ICE HQ) from 12201 - 12500 Tukwila International Blvd, Tukwila.
PEACEFUL, NON-VIOLENT RESISTANCE - A core principle of our coalition is peaceful, non-violent resistance and we will abide by this at all events.
WHAT WILL WE DO: We will gather, stand, wave signs, and make noise on the public sidewalks in front of Sabey and the Department of Homeland Security. We will do so with many cars passing by during rush hour to protest ICE terror and Sabey's enabling of it by leasing offices to ICE.
WHAT TO BRING: Bring yourself and others, your drums, your bullhorns, and your eye-popping, powerful signs. Bring 2-3+ others to help pack this and make a statement that can't be ignored. We'll also have pre-made signs and FREE materials for making new ones on the spot, that you may take with you or leave with the pile we bring to the next protest.
PLEASE FOLLOW EVERYTHING THE BRIGHT-VESTED SAFETY TEAM INSTRUCTS. If you encounter a safety issue, immediately notify the Safety Team in the bright vests. The Safety Team is trained and experienced in safety, risk mitigation and de-escalation. If at any point something doesn't feel safe or you don't feel good, feel free to immediately and calmly leave.
Please note, firearms and weapons of any kind are strictly prohibited from this rally and all rallies we host or co-host.
GETTING THERE:
Tukwila International Blvd = TIB
With limited free parking that involves a walk and a hill or stairs, it is highly encouraged to take public transportation, Uber/Lyft/taxi, or carpool.
BUS/TRAIN: #124 runs along TIB. You may also take light rail to the Tukwila Light Rail Station and catch a #124 heading north on TIB. Use this: tripplanner.kingcounty.gov/#/app/tripplanning
PARKING: There is free residential parking a 10-13 minute walk to Sabey that involves a flight of stairs on one side and going briefly up a hill on the other to TIB (which itself is fairly flat).
On the WEST SIDE of TIB (same side as Sabey), the uphill side, go to S 130th St & 33rd Pl S and park in the area around it. It's a little tricky and involves driving around to get up to it from other streets. Then walk downhill from where you parked to TIB and take a short flight of stairs which ends where a 1-800-GOT JUNK business is located, and then walk northward along TIB to Sabey.
On the EAST SIDE of TIB (same side as DHS), the downhill side, you'll park on the blocks around the intersection of S 130th St & 35th Ave S, then walk uphill to TIB, take a left, and walk northward.
Be warned however that there are no sidewalks in either of those residential areas, and while parking in much of the area is fine, look around to make sure you aren't sticking too far out in the street, you aren't blocking a driveway, aren't parking where this is a "no parking" sign, and that parking in that spot isn't likely to piss off a neighbor.
ADA / PAID PARKING AT SITE - There is paid parking, including ADA parking, available in the northern DHS lot. If you have a choice, for obvious reasons, try to avoid that if possible (the funds go to DHS & Sabey). This is a good option for those with limited mobility if other options listed above don't work.
