FREE ZAHID! Protest Demanding ICE Release Zahid Chaudhry

Join friends and allies of the Chaudhry family for this peaceful protest outside DHS/ICE HQ demanding the immediate release and naturalization for Zahid Chaudhry, a disabled U.S. Army veteran, husband of Melissa Chaudhry, and father of two young children, detained at his U.S. Citizenship interview and incarcerated in appallingly inhumane conditions since August 21. Melissa Chaudhry will be speaking at this event to urge for the return of Zahid to her and their children. Bring your voices, your feet, and your eye-popping, powerful signs. We will have a few extras if needed. Join us to peacefully and non-violently demand Trump's Gestapo release Zahid, cease the terrorizing of our communities, and keep their hands off our friends and neighbors. Learn more on Zahid's story below: On August 21 green card holder and legal resident Muhammad Zahid Chaudhry entered the DHS building in Tukwila for his final naturalization interview, expecting to leave as a U.S. citizen, an honor he has rightfully and legally earned. Instead he was apprehended by ICE and delivered to NW Detention Center (NWDC) in Tacoma, placed in isolation, and denied release on bond. He has not been charged with a crime. Zahid has been in the U.S. for 25 years, and served in the U.S. Army from 2001 to 2005 where he sustained permanent injuries from an accident while training for deployment in Iraq, requiring he use a wheelchair. He is a beloved, well respected member of his community and exemplary citizen of the State of Washington. Zahid’s wife and their two young children are U.S. citizens. There is ample evidence that Mr. Chaudhry has been a target of government persecution for his refusal to be an FBI informant, his activism with Veterans For Peace, his faith, and other factors. It is well documented that the conditions in the for-profit NWDC are deplorable and inhumane. Lack of healthcare, 24-hour lighting, denial of medication for Thyroid eye disease, and inadequate nutrition are putting Zahid’s health, eyesight and very life at risk. We hope to see you Friday!
