Liway Film Screening + Fundraiser

Dahlia - FFPS

Join us for a film screening of Liway, an award-winning story of a young mother imprisoned under Philippine dictator Ferdinand Marcos Senior. Based on true events, Liway portrays director Kip Oebanda’s childhood experience growing up in a prison camp under the regime — and a mother who used story-telling to protect her child. We will be fundraising in support of the Speaking Tour of peasant farmer activist, Ka Daning, from the Philippines. Ka Daning is a survivor of state violence under Martial Law and the leader of KMP (Kilusang Magbubukid ng Pilipinas), the largest farmers association in the country. He will be visiting the Metro Vancouver area in late May 2026 to discuss the fight for the essential rights to land and basic social services and aid amidst government corruption and repression of their advocacy work.
