In July 2025, 18-year old Makayla Rene Settles was brutally sexually assaulted by her father for hours. She died by suicide in December. Steven Vincent Chavez has been released on bail and his next hearing is at 8:30am on April 21, 2026 at the Ventura County Courthouse.
