DC Is Still Occupied

harrietsdreams

DC is still occupied. The National Guard has been in the city under federal command since August 2025, maintaining a military presence inside civilian life for months. There are plans to continue this presence through January 20, 2029, extending the use of military force in this city across years. This government is working to normalize the military acting as community police in DC, even though that role sits outside constitutional limits and outside the training required to safely engage civilian communities. Residents have already experienced the results across this city, including escalation, unnecessary force, and continued over-policing without any meaningful reduction in harm or violence. This is a choice to invest in military presence and federal oversight in place of community based solutions. Resources are being directed toward troops and enforcement while community organizations, local leaders, and programs equipped to support safety, stability, and care at the neighborhood level remain underfunded or overlooked. The conditions people are asking to address are being met with force instead of investment. The Guard answers to the President, and this approach is being driven by Stephen Miller, who operates from within this city while shaping policies that place military force into civilian spaces. DC residents are organizing in response, standing in solidarity and demanding his removal for advancing the use of military power against the people. On March 28, people will gather at the Frederick Douglass Bridge for the No Kings march and move toward Fort McNair, to the doorstep of Stephen Miller, making that demand visible where he lives. bit.ly/no-kings-dc for more details from the organizing hub. bit.ly/freedc_cc to join the Chocolate City contingent.
