Upcoming Community Protests: Shop Local Initiatives Overview of Planned Protests Community members are invited to participate in a series of protests intended to encourage shopping locally during the holiday season. The demonstrations will focus on promoting local businesses in Ypsilanti and discouraging shopping at larger retailers such as Target, Home Depot, and Amazon. Protest Details The primary protest is scheduled for Monday afternoon, from approximately 2:30 PM to 5:00 PM, in Ypsilanti. Participants are encouraged to bring signs with messages like "Shop Local," "Shop Ypsi," or "Don't shop at Target, Home Depot, and Amazon during the holidays." The main gathering point will be at the corner of Hamilton and Michigan Avenue, in the University Bank parking lot. If there is sufficient interest, additional protest activity may take place in Depot Town on Cross Street. There is also the option to begin in one location and then move to the other during the course of the event. Additional Dates and Locations In addition to Monday, other potential protest dates include Wednesday—weather permitting—and Black Friday. These options provide flexibility for participants and aim to maximize community visibility and impact.
