Trenton, NJ: Rally to Make Polluters Pay!

Food & Water Watch

As state leaders finalize New Jersey’s budget, they face a clear choice: continue requiring working people to absorb the growing costs of climate change through higher taxes and cuts to essential services — or pass the Polluters Pay Act and require the companies most responsible to pay their fair share. That’s why EmpowerNJ and our allies are launching the March and Rallies to Make Polluters Pay, a week of actions from May 1st to May 7th to call on our Legislature and Governor Sherrill to pass this critical legislation BEFORE they finalize the state budget. On Thursday, May 7th, we'll rally in the courtyard outside the Statehouse Annex building in Trenton with elected officials and a broad coalition of organizations immediately before the next meeting of the Assembly Environment Committee, which needs to approve the bill. We'll then go into the Statehouse to pack the committee room with supporters of the Polluters Pay Act, wearing green to show our strength in numbers! The Polluters Pay Act (S2338/A3735) will address our worsening climate and affordability crises by making polluters pay, generating $50 billion to help make our New Jersey communities healthier, safer, and more resilient to climate impacts. This is a big fight. Big Oil and their lackeys will do everything they can to escape accountability for the harm their pollution has inflicted on our climate and communities. We must continue to demonstrate our growing power and use our collective voices to demand polluters pay their fair share!
